About
I have a very strong commitment to helping you achieve success that’s meaningful and satisfying for you.
It is still true, as Thoreau said in Walden, that too many people “lead lives of quiet desperation,” because they don’t seek the help they need to break out of such a painful mindset.
I say I coach with W.I.T. (Whatever It Takes), because my focus is on helping clients do whatever it takes to achieve cherished goals in a healthy way…with humor.
I have worked with hundreds of professionals like you, who are struggling at midlife with the sense that they are not fulfilling their potential. Sometimes it seems easier to become resigned to being less, because you stop believing you can be more.
But I know, based on 4 decades of expertise as a college teacher, psychotherapist, and coach, that when you identify your true sweet spots and your greatest strengths and start using them in the right ways, your life can take new and satisfying directions– if you’re open to that possibility.
Besides my years of experience in educating and motivating, I’ve also assembled a unique suite of assessment tools which quickly and efficiently “go deep” and help uncover your untapped wealth of potential and promise. My commitment is to stand with you, my clients, through your self doubts and confusions until you can develop, clarify, and fulfill your goals and visions.
Coaching is not the same as psychotherapy. Coaching with W.I.T. is goal-directed and present and future-oriented. It challenges the status quo, at a pace you set.
Coaching with W.I.T. will stimulate your imagination and encourage you to take risks based on a more expansive yet still realistic self- awareness. It will strengthen your mental muscles so you can climb to heights you never believed you could reach.
MY BIO:
I have over 40 years of experience helping people make revitalizing life and career transitions as well as becoming more productive writers. I’ve loved and enjoyed every moment of my work.
I have an M.A. in English and studied for a doctorate in English and Humanities at Syracuse University. I taught English composition and literature at various universities. I have extensive experience as an academic and personal writing coach.
I am also an LCSW independently licensed in New York State. I was a special counselor for at-risk students at a private liberal arts college in Westchester for over 25 years. Concurrently I was in full-time private practice as a psychotherapist for adults and couples from 1982 until recently.
I have worked with people from every walk of life, from C level executives to free thinking artists. While those two groups may appear to be diametric opposites, both groups share a common goal of breaking through creative blocks and finding the support needed to take their businesses to new levels of excellence.
I am on the leadership team of the MentorCoach Alliance for Positive Psychology and have taken extensive training in Positive Psychology coaching, which focuses on optimal human functioning and happiness.
I coach clients in person and by phone from just north of New York City. Session are typically 30 to 45 minutes long and are focused on your needs and agenda. I offer a free 30 minute phone or in-person consultation so that you can personally experience what it is like to be coached by me.
